Rebecca Romero, Olympic gold medallist, tells us why she leans on turkey:
"As an athlete in full-time training, a healthy, well-balanced, yet tasty diet is vital for my fitness and performance, which is why turkey features regularly in my weekly meal plans.
Turkey is ideal for anyone who exercises as it's high in protein and low in fat. It's perfect for my eating regime as I gear-up to aim for gold, once again, in the London 2012 Olympics and World Championships. Eating turkey helps to build, maintain and repair my muscles after a gruelling training session or competitive event and ensures I'm not consuming too many calories through fat content.
Taste is very important too. My training plan may be strict, but I obviously need to enjoy my food as I need to eat quite a lot! Turkey is both tasty and versatile. Firstly, it holds the flavour of spices, herbs and sauces really well, so it's ideal for creating simple yet tasty meals at home. Plus, there is so much you can cook with it. Generally, I like to use turkey in salads, pasta and risottos and I often eat turkey for lunch during training sessions at the velodrome.
I need to reach my peak fitness level in order to be selected for the World Championships and the London Olympics in 2012, and eating turkey will help keep my body in optimum condition, enabling me to achieve this goal. That's why I lean on turkey."
